Fact #1

Half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16.

Fact #2

The rate of domestic violence is likely much higher than we know. 80% of violence is not reported to the police.

Fact #3

Women are at a greater risk of experiencing elder abuse from a family member. This accounts for 60% of senior survivors of family violence.

Cyber violence, which includes online threats, harassment, and stalking, is a form of domestic violence. Young women (ages 18-24) are most likely to experience cyber violence.

The mental health consequences of domestic violence make it difficult for women to leave abusive relationships. It is reported that 46% of survivors exhibit symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
